How Newsela Accounts Work for Admins

Welcome to Newsela!

As a first step, you'll need to make sure that both your teachers and your students have Newsela accounts.

Next, you’ll need to confirm students are added to the correct classes on Newsela. This allows teachers to make assignments and view student activity.

Teachers who have used Newsela before can sign in at app.newsela.com.

Teachers who are new to Newsela will see a few options for creating accounts: Username & Password, Google, Clever, Canvas, Microsoft, Schoology, Classlink, and others. When creating their account, they should select the one that your school uses. If your school does not use an LMS or portal, teachers should select the Username and Password option.

The option your school uses affects how teachers' Newsela classes are rostered. It also affects how teachers, students, and administrators manage Newsela account settings. In this help article, you’ll find instructions for using Newsela with each option.

NOTE: Every teacher and student needs only one Newsela account, and can keep using that Newsela account every year. You can continue using the same account with a Newsela subscription or with the Lite (free) offerings on Newsela - the correct access will be added based on your school. (If it doesn’t look right contact us.)
