Newsela's articles and quizzes align to national and state standards. Learn more about the available standards available in your subscriptions, and how to search for them, below.


Newsela ELA Standards Alignment

Newsela ELA multiple choice questions are aligned to your state standards, based on the location of the school in which you're registered. Each nonfiction quiz aligns to these state standards, and each quiz question is aligned to a grade-level standard, visible beneath the question number and correct answer.

Newsela Social Studies Standards Alignment

All content on Newsela Social Studies is aligned to your state standards. To explore your standards, follow these steps:

  1. Use the search bar to enter the code of a specific standard like SOC.5-8.RH.10, or enter a keyword and then filter down the results page using the Standards filter on the left hand side

  2. Select any text and scroll underneath the image to view the standards to which the text is aligned.

  3. Hover over the standard’s label to view the full text or click it to be taken to the standard details page to see more information about the standard and to view additional related content.


Newsela Science Standards Alignment

All content on Newsela Science is aligned to state science standards. To explore standards alignment, follow these steps:

  • Use the search bar to enter the code of a specific standard like “Arizona grade 4 Science standard strand 4, Concept 4: PO-2”, or enter a keyword and then filter down the results page using the Standards filter on the left hand side.

  • Select any text and scroll underneath the image to view the standards to which the text is aligned.

  • Hover over the standard’s label to view the full text or click it to be taken to the standard details page to see more information about the standard and to view additional related content.
